autumn wedding dresses

If it seems like most weddings are held between Memorial Day and Labor Day, it is because they are. Being a June bride is not for everyone, though. For some couples, nothing is better than being married when the leaves start to turn vibrant colors and there is a wonderful crisp feeling in the air. Thus, the autumn wedding (full disclosure: I was an October bride).

Autumn is a wonderful season with distinct associations in our memories. The glorious crispness of a bright fall day, the smell of spiced apple cider, the pumpkins, and the warm colors. When planning a wedding in the fall, you can incorporate as many or as few of these seasonal motifs as you wish.

For a fall wedding, capitalize on the rich color palette that nature provides. You can use rich chocolate browns, warm spiced pumpkin orange, deep greens, russet reds, and rich yellows. Let the colors of the changing leaves be your inspiration.

Decorating for an autumn wedding is really fun. If your wedding is less formal, you can go with the relaxed feeling of a fall hayride. Decor can include haybales, pumpkins, and baskets of mums (which are affordable as well as festive). Other beautiful fall blooms include zinnia, sunflowers (the mini ones are adorable!), and black eyed Susans. Decorative gourds and sheafs of wheat would also really suit a fall reception. For unique and charming centerpieces, arrange flowers in hollowed out pumpkins or eggplants.

Of course, not every fall bride will want such a rustic theme for her wedding. Autumn colors can also be used in very sophisticated ways. Bouquets made from calla lilies in the deepest burgundy are dramatic and chic. For an elegant wedding, limit your palette to just one or two colors, rather than using the whole cornucopia of fall colors.

Rich fabrics and colors are perfect for the apparel at a fall wedding. If you prefer the more casual look of pumpkins and sunflowers, choose dresses made of a textural fabric like silk dupioni. For a more formal effect, rich satins are ideal. One way to tie a color theme together is to have a sash on the bridal gown that coordinates with the bridesmaids’ dresses. Chocolate brown would be a wonderful choice, as it flatters every skin tone. To further personalize your look, order handmade wedding jewelry in warm smoky or amber browns. Swarovski crystals are available in an incredible array of colors, so it is very easy to customize your handmade wedding jewelry to compliment your wedding colors.

Food is an important part of any celebration. It is always best to choose dishes that are fresh and in season. For an autumn wedding, look for warm, inviting flavors and aromas. It would be such a wonderful experience for your guests to arrive at the reception to the scent of warm apple cider with mulling spices. (However, let the food and drink provide the aromas; never use scented candles at a meal.) Fall dishes like squash risotto are delicious, and look very special when served in a hollowed out squash. Soup can also be presented this way. And for dessert, why not try a classic fall treat like pumpkin or apple pie? (Who says you have to have cake?) It is a tasty way to tie together a fall themed wedding.
