Bloch Dance Shoes
J acob Bloch started his famous company in 1932 by making pointe shoes for popular ballet dancers like the Russian David Lichine. Today, Bloch dance shoes are among the best quality shoes in the business, and the company carries a full line of shoes for many different styles and levels of dance.
Modern professional dance evolved during the 20th Century to include jazz, tap, chorus, aerobic dance, hip hop, Latin, salsa, and of course, ballet. Bloch distributes a wide variety of shoes for men, women, and children that are supportive, fashionable, and well constructed.
For ballet, they carry flats like the Dansoft, with a full outer sole, cotton lining insole, and soft, elastic strap that covers the instep. They also have the Elastosplit, which utilizes a minimum of material with a split sole that hugs the foot for a firmer fit.
Their pointe shoes are among the best in the business, with perennial favorites like the Serenede, the Suprema, and the Sonata, with strong shanks and wide platforms that improve lateral balance and compensate for the tendency for dancers to fall forward when dancing on their toes.
If you’re a jazz dancer, you’ll find comparable styles that offer a winning combination of strong support, flexibility and simple styling found in the Elasta Bootie or the Super Jazz. Most of their jazz styles come in black or tan, with the exception of the Slingshot, which more closely resembles an athletic shoe and is available in a bold red and grey mesh.
Speaking of athletic shoes, Bloch also supplies many styles of dance sneakers for hip-hop and urban dance styles. Their Klassik is a best seller, with a full-grain leather upper that is matched with an EVA molded insole with PU suede details for better grip. The lightweight out sole also has a spin spot for quick maneuvers.
The Boost DRT is another model that is well-suited for the hip-hop style. It has an air-cushioned heel for impact resistance and the split sole supports a high arch. The upper is a combination of suede and mesh lining.
The Bloch footwear line includes a line of shoes designed for tap.Their Tapflex and Annie models are popular choices for beginning tap, and the company also provides models with 2” heels for chorus lines, like the Cabaret and the Chord. These Bloch dance shoes have tap dancers desire most, like strong tap plates, padded insoles, patent or full leather uppers, and ankles straps or elastic bands for a stable fit.
The innovations developing with Bloch dance shoes has developed new collections and specialty lines that have more to do with fashion than dance. Their association with Australian designer Jozette Hazzouri led to a line of fashionable high heels, shoes for babies and toddlers, and more colorful ballerina flats beginning in 2008.
Hazzouri’s reputation as a fashion maven began in 2005 with the release of her own line of clothing during International Australian Fashion Week, which generated rave reviews. Her new collection of ballet flats for Bloch are infused with lots of energy, and introduce materials and bold designs that dancers might choose as casual attire long after they’ve left the studio.
As a whole, the comprehensive line of Bloch dance shoes has something for everyone, and the experience gained during seventy years in business ensures they will remain one of the top distributors in the industry.
