Bob Hair Style

A bob hair cut or hair style is a short hair style in which a weighted area of hairs is left freely to fall between the ears and chin. Bob became modern fashion for women in the early years of 1920s, in 1970s it again regained its popularity but as a men’s hair style. There are two types of bob. They are Shingle bob and Chinese bob.

The shingle bob is a type of bob hairstyle for women. It was introduced in the year 1924. The Shingle bob is also known as a “graduated bob.” During the intervals between 1920 and 1930 hairstyles like the bob cut became popular by Victoria Beckham and Fefe Dobson and the beehive, worn by pop singer Amy Wine house.

So Shingle bob came back as fashion. Hairs at the sides are shaved or buzzed leave a band of hairs in the middle. They are often spiked up. Shingle bob was made in 1909 by Antoine, hairdresser in Paris. Antoine was inspired by “Joan of Arc”. In England Shingle bob became very popular in Bloomsbury circles at that time First World War was going on. But Shingle became widely popular in the 1920s by flappers.

Colleen Moore, the American film star was extremely influential in spreading this fashion around the globe. At the time of 1920’s Shingle bob was recognized as a sign of a liberated women. A new hair style, the razor cut shingle bob was introduced in the year 1924.

In the 1960s, Shingle bob again became popular by hair designer, Vidal Sassoon. He used the style of the early bob and made it more stylish and in a simpler cuts. After some years it again gained its fame. At the same time a new hair cut “mop top” Beatle cut was arrived for men.

Famous fashion designers of those days, Mary Quant and Jean Muir (actress) Amanda Barrie, Cilla Black, Billie Davis, Juliet Greco, Mireille Mathieu and Beverly Bivens of the American group combined “mop top” Beatle cut with the bob.

Different styles and combinations of the “bob” have evolved since 1980. In the late 1980s, Siouxsie Sioux, lead singer turned their hairs into bob cut for some time. Anna Wintour, an editor of American Vogue, appears to have her trimmed every day. Recently the bob was recognized with Uma Thurman in the film Pulp Fiction in 1994 and Madonna, singer in 2006.

After 2006, the “bob” again came back into fashion in Ireland and the United Kingdom. Bob hair style can be traced to the influence of fashion icon (and ex Spice Girl) Victoria Beckham her hair bobbed. “Bob” was conflated with Posh Spice, Ms Beckham’s nickname.
